Marmite? Pl-ease.

currently: sick (hence post lackage), but not disappointed.

So apparently there's a marmite shortage in New Zealand. Boo hoo. [/sarcasm]

Know what I have?

Homemade hot cross buns.

Priorities people. Marmite, whatever. Hot cross buns, forever (or every Easter.)

Thanks to mum for making them btw. Cause everyone knows mum's baking is best.

A Lazy Saturday (and I'm published!)

currently: lying in bed.

Took this on Friday in Victoria Park after class.
Don't call me weird, but I enjoy autumn. I mean sure, I love summer as much as the next person, but in the lead up to winter I love dressing in winter clothes. And jeans. Wow do I love jeans. With boots. Jeans and boots.
What was I saying?

Oh right. I enjoy the autumn. The only problem with autumn is that on a cloudy day, it drains your energy. As it makes you feel sleepy and fall asleep in the wrong places. I almost fell asleep on the bus with a laptop on my lap last Thursday. Kids, don't do that. It's a good thing I live in the safer part of Auckland.

Anyway, I went through the same thing today. It didn't help a lot that I've been feeling a bit ill since Friday morning. All I wanted to do was lie in bed and stare at the screen. Despite my long list of things to do, I've accomplished very little. And in 15 minute from now, I will hate myself for wasting my day away like I have.

Born To Die - Lana Del Rey album review

currently: overwhelmed!

So university will not take a break for me any time soon, so sorry for the lack of regular posts. It's hard to feel motivated to write when you're writing about 80% of the time for university purposes, so it feels a bit too much. Kinda like eating two bowls of ice cream each day and becoming so sick of it that you crave salad. Salad in this case means not writing anything. But I will aim to be more committed to posting, even if I try for just a photo or two.

Anyway, just a special review I'm posting today. Instead of posting the originally printed version that I wrote for Debate Magazine's second issue straight onto here, I will post my original, unfiltered album review - a.k.a the longer and slightly more meaner one. Hope you enjoy!

Lana Del Rey – Born to Die (Deluxe Edition)
Rating: B-
American singer Lizzy Grant, a.k.a Lana Del Rey, a.k.a the self-proclaimed ‘gangsta Nancy Sinatra’, had already been labelled ‘the next big thing’ and ‘overrated hype’ before her album had been released. Now, with Del Rey’s debut Born to Die released to an anticipating audience of critics, she is set to try and make her music career last longer than her controversy. Her old film noir glam influences and self-described ‘Hollywood pop/ sadcore’ genre have brought something fresh and different, but her challenge will be whether Born to Die would give Lana Del Rey the credit to keep her elevated over the others in the charts.

Switchfoot's Auckland show officially cancelled

currently: a bit sad :(

So the word is officially out. :( [source here]
I love those boys but in light of Jon Foreman's family emergency, I believe it's more crucial for him to be with the family and not be halfway across the world worrying. It's just not worth it, and let's be fair, this would be a crappy time for everyone.

So it is a sad moment. But for those that are able to - you can see the Switchfoot boys at Parachute 13 (and your ticket can be used to fund the weekend passes for it).
And just to either aid the pain, or bring on the tears, here's a video I took of the Switchfoot boys last time they were in New Zealand.

And Jerome Fontamillas - I have not met you yet, but I will. SOON.

Love and Prayers to Jon Foreman, his wife and baby girl, and to the rest of the Foreman Fam and the Switchfoot boys.

Top 10 Reasons to go to University

currently:  getting ready for uni. *sigh* uni.

Top 10 reasons why you should bother to get out of bed each morning and go to university.

1) People think you're smart.
University = proof you have a brain. Or at least attempting to use it.

2) Being at university is better than being unemployed.
Because you could be out and about studying and being poor, as opposed to being home and poor.

3) You could get to have an epic cap/gown throwdown when you graduate like at the end of Legally Blonde.
If you don't understand, click here and skip to 2:44

4) You will meet new people who will be kinda similar to you.
For example, if you're an accounting nerd, all of the people around you will be accounting nerds. And if you all don't like it, you can all complain together. How's that for bonding.

Level Zero #1 - Searching for gamer cred with a portal gun

currently: busy with more writing.

So next week, university starts for my very full on third year. [insert sad face here].
But hey, call me hard working: I've already written stuff for AUT's Debate Magazine, with more pieces lined up to review and write (I'm working on something right now as we speak.)
So as a lead up to what useless articles and pieces I'll be submitting for this year, have a look at my first column piece that you can read in Debate's 2012 summer orientation issue.

Level Zero - Searching for gamer cred with a portal gun.
Column #1

I have a collection of video games at home, and not to brag, but I’m pretty good at them. I’m quick with the arrow keys, I know how to rack up the high points, and I’m fantastic with reaching those achievement levels. Sound impressive?
Apparently, it’s not. Because playing Angry Birds, Singstar and The Sims 2 doesn’t account to anything according to gamers. To gamers, I’d be a person riding a dorky tricycle while elite gamers ride their shiny motorcycles around me.
It’s a shame because I have a lot to say on those darn pesky green pigs. But when standing in a circle of gamers, they’re more interested in discussing weird World of Warcraft minerals or the things that they shot up in Minecraft last night. (I’m making that up; I don’t even know what you do in those games.)
So this gives me two solutions. One, find a new circle of people to stand with, or two, actually learn how to play these games so I actually have some clue what their saying.

2012 Grammy Fashion Review

currently: on my new LAPTOP :D

So hey all, I finally have myself a shiny new laptop

Photobucket
Hence the delay of posts this week as I've been setting it up with all my programs (had to buy Microsoft Office too :/) Still getting quite used to it, the keyboard is all funny to me haha.

Anyway, today the Grammys were on and I had been following the coverage from work. And when I say coverage, I really mean the fashion. It's fair to say that it's a Grammys like no other, with Whitney Houston being the main focus. But I still enjoyed the red carpet fashion, because the Grammys are the place where you can be a bit edgier, a bit more daring. Unfortunately some can be too daring into a section of distasteful. But the fashionista in me loves it!

So for the first time ever, let's award and recognise the best, worst and most questionable fashions from this year's 54th Grammy Awards:
